Events in Marlborough!
Published on 17 February 2012
Marlborough has had an eventful February so far but there are still some things to come. On the 5th we had Cancer day which is the international day of cancer awareness. Every year 7.6 million people die of cancer worldwide which is around 13 percent of the population. I
On the 6th of February we had a much deserved holiday to celebrate the signing of the Treaty of Waitangi. On the 14th of Feb we had a chance to spoil our partners for Valentines day.
Christchurch
The 22nd of February is the anniversary of the Christchurch earthquake. There will be a memorial live on Canterbury and Maori television. New Zealand will definitely be sending their support and love to everyone affected by the disaster!
In Marlborough
We have some future developements happening on the Taylor River Floodway Reserve here in Marlborough. The Marlborough District Council is keen to develop the land. One idea for the development is to plant some native trees and plants. But if you have a better idea they are keen to hear some local ideas. For information go to The Marlborough District Council website.
We also have some events coming up which include Country Music in the Park, MOREFM Beach Day and Pets Day Out. Here's a little more about them:
- Country Music in the Park. If you love country music, come to Country Music in the Park on the 19th of February. You'll get to hear country music from Matthew McNeilly and other artists at Pollard Park. Another great thing about this event is that it is budget friendly, just a gold coin donation to attend.
- MOREFM Beach Day. Also on the 19th is the MORE FM Beach Day, which includes a sandcastle competition as well as digging competitions. There are heaps of prizes to be won. So remember to go to Whites Bay for the annual event. After participating in the competitions you can have a refreshing swim. It is important to remember to bring your sun block and hat so you don’t get burnt.
- Brayshaw Park & Pets Day Out. The people of Marlborough are invited to bring their pets to this fun event which begins at 11.30am on the 25th of February. Along with lively musical acts, such as local singers Anneka Thwaites and Matt McNeilly, attendees get to have a look at the old classic cars and old fashion farm machinery. The museum is also conveniently located nearby so that you can brush up on your history.
